Aims:
Berlasco Court Caring Centre as administered by the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland Ltd is a ‘not for profit’ organisation which seeks to provide quality aged care to members of the Community.
We seek to provide the highest possible standard of care, demonstrating compassion, empathy, love, and respect for human dignity, encouragement of independence and wisdom in all their interactions;
We recognise the importance and needs of each individual and to this end strive to meet those needs whether they be physical, psychological, social or spiritual;
We aim to ensure the privacy, comfort and dignity of all residents;
We respect the right of all residents to maintain family and community relationships, and that families are made to feel welcome and where possible,involved with planning for all aspects of care;
We aim to conduct the affairs of residents with integrity and dignity;
To respect the residents’ right to be informed, whenever desired, of their current health status, medication, diagnosis, investigations and financial liability when using the facilities;
Residents have the right to refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law after being fully informed of health choices available;
Residents have the right to expect that all communications and records pertaining to their care are treated as confidential;
To facilitate residents and their relatives/carers the right of choice, when deemed practical, provided that the rights of others are not infringed upon;
To ensure that surroundings and living conditions are as pleasant and comfortable as possible, providing a feeling of homeliness and security, whilst encouraging maximum possible independence;
To provide as safe an environment as possible for residents and staff, while still maintaining the right of the residents to freedom of choice;
To ensure there is adequate support for the spiritual needs of each resident;
To achieve and maintain the highest possible standards of medical and nursing care, within the context of our Facility’s capabilities;
To promote amongst the community a more vital understanding of the concept of total care provided for residents;
To create and maintain an environment of warmth and cheerfulness that will focus on the positive aspects of human life;
To provide quality individual care to meet the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of residents; and
To promote maximum fitness and independence of residents.
To carry out, with intelligent application to each individual resident, the needs and therapeutic measures as directed by the Physician and other Allied Health persons;
To ensure safe, professional levels of nursing and care are practiced through the recruitment and maintenance of experienced and/or qualified personnel;
To promote staff development and maintain a high standard of skills by providing a planned induction program and on-going education for all personnel;
To promote a system of staff assignment that will ensure optimum utilisation of their services in the accomplishment of quality resident care;
To foster assessment and evaluation of staff to promote the highest quality of resident and client care;
To recommend and formulate policies, procedures and work instructions to ensure the continuing improvement in care and services based on Accreditation Standards;
To cooperate with other health services and allied disciplines in achieving the health care needs of residents and their relatives/carers;
To apply the legal requirements for administering and providing care in a safe environment for residents;
To maintain sufficient supplies and equipment for resident care needs and to be conversant with new and improved products and equipment; and
To maintain good public relations through both the functional and professional capacities of the staff.
